The Adoption Guild is very fortunate to have the support of Roy Emerson, one of the most prolific players in tennis history, holding 28 Grand Slam titles, 12 singles titles, and 16 doubles titles. Emerson was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1982. He remains the only male player to win singles and doubles titles in all four Grand Slam titles.
Roy and his wife Joy currently reside in Newport Beach and Gstaad Switzerland.
The 57th Annual Roy Emerson Adoption Guild Tennis Classic, a USTA-sanctioned event, was played out on the courts of the Palisades Tennis Club, The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club, Mesa Verde Country Club and the Racquet Club of Irvine, with the finals played at Palisades Tennis Club on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th. Prize money of $15,000, was underwritten by the Orange County Breakers. A Tournament Party was held on Saturday, May 26th, at The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club, featuring local fair and attended by over 200 participants and friends of the tournament.
Marianne Wright, past president and current Adoption Guild liaison to the HFS Board of Directors, along with her husband Matt and daughter Emily, attended both the Tournament Party and the tournament finals on Monday. Julie Brown, HFS Executive Director, and the Johnston Family (with six adopted children – two through HFS) also attended the tournament finals representing HFS.
Since 1961, The Adoption Guild of Southern California has generated over $4.3 million in funding, which has contributed to more than 6,000 adoptions within the Southern California area.
The Adoption Guild is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization comprised of approximately 50 members based in Orange County. For over 50 years, the Guild has raised funds to financially support Holy Family Services (HFS), a foster and adoption agency in Southern California, which provides critical resources and counseling for children, birth parents and adoptive families within the community.
With the hope of giving every child an opportunity to have a loving family, each year in the spring, The Adoption Guild hosts two fundraising events: the Patroness Event and the Annual Roy Emerson Adoption Guild Tennis Classic. proceeds from all events directly benefit Holy Family Services.
